 </a> advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the men's 110-meter hurdles with his performance at the NCAA East Preliminaries Friday evening at the University of Kentucky.   Franklin ran the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 13.25 seconds, winning his heat and finishing third overall. He will now compete in the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Oregon, June 10-13.   This will mark the second time during the 2026 season that Franklin has competed for an NCAA Championship. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford earned four specialty honors; Wofford collected two, and Furman and Western Carolina each claimed one. The awards, voted on by the league’s ten outdoor coaches, were announced by the Southern Conference on Friday. The Samford men, led by Rod Tiffin, the Men’s Coach of the Year, earned two superlatives through Cole Grande and Chase Webb. Grande was named the Male Outstanding Track Performer, while Webb earned Male Freshman of the Year. Grande, who was also selected as the Male Most Outstanding Athlete at this year’s championship, scored 23 points, including gold‑medal performances in the men’s 400m, 4x400m, and 4x100m. Webb added two season bests to his freshman résumé, placing second in the 100m and fourth in the 200m finals. He also ran the third leg on Samford’s gold‑medal 4x100m relay. The Samford men have now won six consecutive championships under Tiffin, and this marks the sixth time since 2021 that he has earned the men’s coach superlative. Wofford’s Jakayla Campbell and Patrick Green earned Most Outstanding Performer honors for women’s track and men’s field, respectively. Campbell scored 21 points with gold‑medal finishes in the women’s 100m hurdles, 4x400m, and 4x100m. The junior also claimed bronze in the 200m with a personal‑best time of 24.06. Green secured gold in both the men’s long jump and triple jump, earning a personal best and a season best in the process. He became the first Terrier to win the triple jump since 2003.   Furman’s Tessa Walter earned her third Freshman of the Year honor this academic year after finishing second in both the women’s 5,000m and 10,000m. She previously earned the award in cross country and indoor track. Western Carolina head coach Jesse Norman was named Women’s Coach of the Year after leading his team to a wire‑to‑wire championship finish. The Catamounts outpaced Samford by seven points to claim the women’s crown. <div class="payload-richtext">CULLOWHEE, N.C. — The SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championships return to Western Carolina’s Catamount Athletic Complex on Monday and Tuesday. This year marks the 101st men’s championship and the 39th women’s championship. Monday’s schedule opens with the men’s decathlon at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women’s heptathlon at 10 a.m. Day 1 concludes with the men’s and women’s 10,000m finals at 7:35 p.m. and 8:20 p.m., respectively. Tuesday’s action resumes with the multi events at 9:15 a.m. The meet wraps up with the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays at 5:25 p.m. and 5:35 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Bryn Woodall and Sierra Bower have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively. Samford’s Arthur Chitty and Dorsey Parker have been selected as the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Woodall ran a league‑leading 3:39.91 in the 1,500m at the Charlotte Invitational on April 24. SoCon announces Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week 

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Bradley Franklin and Bryce Davis have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. ETSU’s Micailah Cook and Samford’s JT Shaw have been selected as the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Cook ran a personal‑best 53.76 in the 400m at the Wake Forest Invitational. With that performance, the Buccaneers sophomore set a new ETSU school record and moved into the conference lead. She also placed second in the 200m with a time of 23.88, another SoCon‑leading mark. Shaw threw a season‑best 13.71m in the shot put at the Georgia Tech Invitational to finish fifth. She also recorded marks of 42.86m in the discus and 49.99m in the hammer. Franklin recorded the seventh‑fastest time in NCAA history and the world lead under any conditions, running a NCAA‑leading 13.07 in the 110m hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida. Davis earned a personal best in the hammer throw with a conference‑leading mark of 56.77m at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Furman’s Annie Miller and Samford’s Lindsey Havens have been selected as the women’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Havens cleared an outdoor personal best of 3.93m at the Crimson Tide Invitational, leading the conference by 10 inches in the pole vault. Miller placed first overall in the 3,000‑meter steeplechase at the Duke Invitational. Her time of 10:13.12 leads the SoCon, ranks seventh in the NCAA East, and 20th nationally. Davis recorded a personal best throw of 55.67m to take the conference lead and finish seventh at the Crimson Tide Invitational. Franklin ran 13.58 into a 1.3 headwind at the Alabama Invite to win the men’s 110‑meter hurdles. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Christian Roberts, Austin Cline, and Toria Roundtree have been named the Southern Conference men’s track, men’s field, and women’s field outdoor athletes of the week, respectively. Wofford’s Taylor Jennings‑Ward has been selected as the women’s outdoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. This week’s honorees competed at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. Jennings‑Ward ran a personal‑best 54.91 in the 400‑meter dash. She finished third at the meet, and her time now leads all Southern Conference performances. Roundtree recorded a conference‑leading 45.98m in the discus. The mark also ranks as the third‑best performance in Western Carolina program history. Roberts ran 52.71 in the 400‑meter hurdles to place second and set the conference‑leading mark. He also clocked 14.35 in the 110‑meter hurdles, another conference‑leading performance, finishing fifth overall. Cline placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.38m, improving his No. 5 all‑time performance in program history. The junior now leads the league by just under two meters. Wofford and Western Carolina are set to compete next at the Duke Invitational. <div style="text-align: left;" class="lexical-table-container">

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Bryce Davis, Aaliyah Mbenda, and JT Shaw have been named the Southern Conference men’s field, women’s track, and women’s field outdoor athletes of the week, respectively. Furman’s Albert Velikonja has been selected as the men’s outdoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Velikonja set the conference-leading time in the 5,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays. He placed 17th out of more than 166 runners, finishing in 13:51.71. His performance also ranks 15th in the NCAA East region. Davis won both the shot put (16.22m) and hammer throw (53.52m) at the UAB Invite. He now leads the SoCon in the shot put and ranks third in the hammer. Mbenda ran a conference-leading 64.80 in the 400-meter hurdles to win the event in her first-ever appearance at the distance. She also posted a 13.52 in the 100-meter hurdles, another conference-leading mark. Shaw claimed the women’s shot put and hammer throw titles at the UAB Invite, recording marks of 13.56m and 50.06m, respectively. SoCon announces Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Trevor Williams, Austin Cline, and Sadler Miller have been named the Southern Conference men’s track, men’s field, and women’s outdoor field athletes of the week, respectively. VMI’s Naturale Faison has been selected as the women’s outdoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. All four honorees competed at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge hosted by UNC Asheville on March 20–21. Williams earned an individual title and personal best in the 400 meters, winning the event in 48.52. The Catamounts sophomore now leads the conference in the event. Cline won the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 54.91 meters, a performance that ranks fifth all-time in Western Carolina history and leads the SoCon. Miller, a senior, captured the high jump title with a conference-leading clearance of 1.68 meters. Faison claimed individual titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. The VMI sophomore set personal bests in each event, running 11.85 in the 100, and 24.44 in the 200. Western Carolina will return to action in Hogh Point, North Carolina, at the Vertklasse Meeting on April 2-3, while VMI competes next at the Electric City Invitational on April 3-4 in Anderson, South Carolina.  2025-26 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week   <div style="text-align: left;" class="lexical-table-container">

SoCon announces Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

Additionally, Samford’s Ellison Chadwick has been selected as the women’s outdoor field athlete of the week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Williams ran a 1:55.68 in the 800m to win the event at the South Alabama Invitational on March 14. The Chesterfield, Virginia, native opened the season less than half a second off his personal best of 1:55.17, which he set during the 2025 season. Cline recorded a personal‑best throw of 54.50m in the hammer throw at the South Alabama meet, moving him to fifth all‑time in Western Carolina history. The Catawba, North Carolina, native also won the shot put with a mark of 15.79m. Lysight raced to a win in the 100m hurdles with a personal‑best time of 13.79. The Western Carolina senior now ranks second all‑time in Catamounts history. Chadwick won the women’s long jump with a personal‑best leap of 6.09m at the Montevallo Falcon Classic last weekend.
