SoCon announces Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
Paladins take track honors, while Bulldogs sweep field selections
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Bryn Woodall and Sierra Bower have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively. Samford’s Arthur Chitty and Dorsey Parker have been selected as the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Woodall ran a league‑leading 3:39.91 in the 1,500m at the Charlotte Invitational on April 24. The Furman senior’s mark ranks 26th in the NCAA East Region.
Bower topped the podium in the 5,000m at the Charlotte Invitational with a time of 16:33.99, a mark that ranks second in the conference by just over one second.
On April 24, Chitty cleared a season‑best 2.12m in the high jump at the Josh Reidinger Invite, which is a height that leads the conference and ranks 29th in the NCAA East Region.
Parker recorded a personal‑best 1.74m in the high jump at the Josh Reidinger Invite, establishing a new conference high in the event.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Furman is set to compete at the Duke Twilight in Durham, North Carolina, on Sunday, while Samford heads to the Mississippi State Invitational on Friday.
