LEXINGTON, Va. – In a collaborative effort between the Virginia Military Institute wrestling program, its fans and the Corps of Cadets, the team raised over 700 non-perishable items for the Headlock on Hunger program.
The 748 total items weighed in at 589 pounds of food, collected between the Keydets’ home match against Southern Conference rival The Citadel on Thursday, Feb. 5, and Monday, Feb. 9. The event served as a company challenge within the Corps, resulting in nearly two thirds of donations coming from Delta Company, which won a free weekend from Barracks by winning the challenge.
Led by national chairman Jim Ross, WWE Hall of Fame broadcaster, Fox Sports contributor and creator of The Ross Report podcast, Headlock on Hunger is a national initiative that brings together the wrestling community, as well as public, private and sports organizations to help provide food for children who are dealing with hunger at home.
