SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference’s Racial Equity and Justice Task Force has entered a limited-time partnership with the Playa Society, a brand created to promote representation and recognition in sports with designs that facilitate conversation about gender equality and social justice, which will run from Feb. 19 through March 12, 2021.
The partnership includes a limited-edition Playa Society x SoCon Athletes Against Injustice T-shirt available exclusively through
playasociety.com. Each shirt is being sold at a retail price of $28, which does not include shipping. The sizes available run from extra small to triple XL. The Racial Equity and Justice Task Force will receive 40 percent of profits from each T-shirt sold as an effort to support the education, marketing, promoting diversity and support subcommittees. All sales end on March 12.
The purpose of this initiative is to enhance the goals of the SoCon Racial Equity and Justice Task Force to improve racial equity and social justice among conference member schools. Together, Playa Society and the SoCon will raise awareness for the task force and raise funding for its four subcommittees.
Founder Esther Wallace, a former NCAA Division I student-athlete, launched the Athletes Against Injustice T-shirt on June 8, 2020, as Black Lives Matter protests heightened around the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. During the launch of the T-shirt and sticker, a portion of proceeds were donated to Reclaim the Block in Minneapolis. As a black-woman-owned business, Playa Society is committed to using design as a platform to inspire change.
