ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team donated its proceeds from its Heart Health Awareness Day to the Greensboro chapter of the American Heart Association on Thursday evening, April 10, at the program's clubhouse.

"One of the things that this program enjoys doing is giving back to the community," said Elon head softball coach Kathy Bocock. "We are always working hard every year to come up with new ideas and along with our annual Pink Day game, we're looking forward to hosting this event with the American Heart Association every year."

The Phoenix raised over $1,300 during the first day of the Elon Phoenix tournament on Feb. 21, to help raise heart health awareness. The day was dedicated to Jake West, cousin of junior pitcher Caitlin O'Shea, who passed away from an undetected heart condition last fall during football practice.
 
O'Shea along with her immediate family and the rest of the program wore t-shirts and wristbands with the words "All In" to honor Jake during the event. Jake's family was also honored during pregame with Jake's father throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
 
Elon will host its annual Pink Day game at 1 p.m. in honor of breast cancer awareness this weekend, April 12-13, versus Appalachian State at Hunt Softball Park. The sorority Zeta Tau Alpha will have baked goods while accepting donations to go to a breast cancer foundation.
