GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG Athletics and WGHP FOX8 teamed up once again for the FOX8 Gifts for Kids campaign to assist families in the Piedmont area during the holiday season. UNCG and FOX8 have been teaming up for over 16 years for this community service campaign.

This year, UNCG student-athletes started a new tradition with the FOX8 Gifts For Kids program, where they sponsored two families (five children total) and purchased items from the children's Christmas lists. The student-athletes also provided wrapping paper, boxes and Christmas cards for the families to use. The families were chosen at random by the Salvation Army of High Point. The Spartans purchased toys, clothes, coats, diapers, a skateboard, a scooter and a bicycle.

“Being able to give a child the gifts the asked for was an amazing experience.” Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President and UNCG baseball senior Dylan Hathcock said. “I learned not to take what I have for granted.”

In working with The Salvation Armies of the Piedmont, the purpose of Gifts for Kids is to collect holiday gifts for children in the Triad whose families are in need.  In 2011, more than 24,000 children in the Piedmont received presents as a result of the effort.
