Charleston, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women’s soccer team went into action off the field when they participated in the College and Community Blitz Build project, helping to build a house with Habitat for Humanity.
CofC has partnered with Habitat for Homecoming 2008 as part of the “One Pride, One House” program. The house, located at 325 Nassau St. in downtown Charleston, will be built between Feb. 2 and Feb 16th before being dedicated. Angie Nelson and her four children will receive the keys during the dedication ceremony.
Charleston’s student government chose Habitat for Humanity as its homecoming project to help combat low home ownership and the rising cost of living in the city of Charleston.
Nelson was born and raised in Bronx, N.Y. She moved to Charleston, S.C., to live with her adopted mother. As a single mother, she is raising two boys and two girls ranging in age from 14 to 19 years old.
“A dream of mine has always been to own my own home,” Nelson said. “Thanks to Charleston Habitat for Humanity and the College of Charleston, my dream will become a reality.”
