ETSU's Bowers and Mercer's Harris named XC Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Jason Bowers and Mercer’s Nichole Harris have been named The Southern Conference men’s and women’s cross-country runners of the week, respectively, after all competition September 11-16. 

Both ETSU and Mercer competed at the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State on September 12. 

A native of Parys, South Africa, Bowers finished sixth with a time of 23:27.01 in the men’s  8000m run. The Bucs finished 17th in the 48-team field.  

Harris, a senior with the Bears program, finished 21st in the field of 100 runners in the women’s 5000m run. The Ocala, Florida native helped pace Mercer to claim 8th place in the 53-team field. 

ETSU will visit the Hokies of Virginia Tech on September 19, while Mercer will visit fellow Peach State program Georgia Tech on October 3 to continue the 2025 season.
