GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman won their 12th straight men’s and women’s titles at the 2024 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships., &nbsp;Furman’s Dylan Schubert won the men’s race, breaking an 11-year course record, while the Paladins’ Carly Wilkes captured the women’s individual title, shattering the former course record.&nbsp;The men’s 8K race led off the day at 10 a.m. Schubert, a fifth-year senior from Loveland, Colorado, finished in 23:40.1. Schubert won his third-straight individual title. Schubert, the SoCon Runner of the Year, was the first of seven Furman runners to finish in the top 10, as the 23rd-ranked Paladins scored a perfect 15 points. &nbsp;Luke Taylor, a junior math and economics major from Rockville, Virginia, and the eighth-place finisher, was named the Knight Commission Pinnacle Award winner.&nbsp;The Pinnacle Award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the men’s and women’s winning teams. Furman coach Robert Gary was named the SoCon Coach of the Year. Carson Williams of Furman was second with a time of 24:07.7. Furman’s Christopher Knight came in third with a time of 24:20.9, followed by teammate Evan Guzman at 24:21.0. Furman’s Colin Eckerman and Nicholas Goldstein, Chattanooga’s Jackson Martin, Western Carolina’s Drew Zink, and VMI’s Kevin Shank, finished out the All-SoCon team, completing the race in that order.&nbsp; Western Carolina, the runner-up in the men’s race, finished with 94 points. UNCG finished third with 108 points.&nbsp;The women’s 5K race followed at 10:45 a.m. Wilkes finished in first with a time of 16:09.7. Wilkes is Furman’s fourth straight individual women’s champion, and was named the SoCon Runner of the Year. Furman coach Rita Gary was tabbed the SoCon Coach of the Year after leading the Paladins to their 12th straight title. The dozen consecutive championships is the longest active winning streak in Division I. Furman junior Kaylie Armitage placed second, finishing in 16:15.3. Furman’s Jenna Mulhern placed third with a time of 16:22.7. 2024 XC Champ Recap

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2024 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina. Furman is hosting the championships for the first time since 2015.&nbsp;The men’s 8K race begins at 10 a.m. ET, and the women’s 5K will follow at 10:45 a.m. ET. At the conclusion of the women’s race, there will be an awards ceremony to recognize the top teams and individual runners.&nbsp;Furman’s men’s and women’s squads are both the 11-time defending champions of the event. The Paladins claimed the 2023 team titles at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, North Carolina, with Dylan Schubert earning the men’s individual title and Abigail Robertson winning the women’s race, both earning Runner of the Year honors.&nbsp;Paladin coach Robert Gary was named the SoCon Coach of the Year for the 11th straight year on the women’s side after Furman won their 11th straight title.&nbsp;&nbsp;ETSU’s George Watts and Furman’s Gary were named men’s SoCon Co-Coaches of the Year. The Paladins won their 11th straight team title. The Bucs finished second for the third straight season. Furman and ETSU were the only member schools to roster selections on the men’s 2023 All-SoCon First Team.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Furman’s men, who are ranked 23rd in the latest USTFCCCA poll, are seeking to win their 12th straight men’s titles. The Paladin women, who are ranked No. 20 in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll, own the longest streak of women’s titles in league history and are seeking their 12th straight.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Furman women have turned in eight of the top 10 5K times this season.&nbsp;Chattanooga’s Lesley Boyd owns the top 5K time in the league this season at 17:01.03, which she accomplished at the Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, KY on Oct. 5. Furman’s Madelyn Cadeau is second with her 17:05.37 effort at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 11. Boyd and Cadeau each received a SoCon Runner of the Week honor this season.&nbsp;The Furman men have turned in the top seven 8K times this season with Carson Williams claiming the top time of 23:07.80. Williams was named the SoCon runner of the Week three times this season, becoming the sixth men’s runner to be selected three or more times. &nbsp;The remaining three top 10 times are owned by Mercer’s Yianni Pothoulakis and Buck Ledford and Western Carolina’s Drew Zink.&nbsp;&nbsp;Furman’s Williams, defending SoCon champion Dylan Schubert, and Chris Knight are the only three SoCon runners to have posted sub-24-minute 8K times this season.&nbsp;&nbsp;Admission to the 2024 Southern Conference Cross Country Championship is free. This is Wilkes’ second runner of the week recognition of the season.&nbsp;Williams, a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, finished with an 8k time of 23:07, placing 13th overall. SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Furman’s Madelynne Cadeau and Luke Taylor have named The Southern Conference women’s and men’s cross country runners of the week, respectively, after all competition Oct. 9-15. &nbsp; &nbsp;Furman competed at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Oct. 11. Cadeau and Taylor competed in the women’s and men’s gold races, respectively. &nbsp;&nbsp;Cadeau, a graduate student, from Cumming, Georgia, ran a 17:05, finishing second overall in the 5k. Boyd, a graduate student, ran a season best 17:01, finishing ninth overall in the gold race. Boyd collected her second runner of the week recognition of the year with this performance. &nbsp;UNCG traveled to Greenville, North Carolina, on Oct. 4 to compete in the Pirate Cross Country Invitational. Keck, a senior, finished with an 8k time of 24:59, placing 41st overall out of 176. &nbsp;The Mocs will return to action on Oct. 18,when they host the UTC Home Meet.
