<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Bryn Woodall and Sierra Bower have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively. Samford’s Arthur Chitty and Dorsey Parker have been selected as the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Woodall ran a league‑leading 3:39.91 in the 1,500m at the Charlotte Invitational on April 24. SoCon announces Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week 

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Bradley Franklin and Bryce Davis have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. ETSU’s Micailah Cook and Samford’s JT Shaw have been selected as the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Cook ran a personal‑best 53.76 in the 400m at the Wake Forest Invitational. With that performance, the Buccaneers sophomore set a new ETSU school record and moved into the conference lead. She also placed second in the 200m with a time of 23.88, another SoCon‑leading mark. Shaw threw a season‑best 13.71m in the shot put at the Georgia Tech Invitational to finish fifth. She also recorded marks of 42.86m in the discus and 49.99m in the hammer. Franklin recorded the seventh‑fastest time in NCAA history and the world lead under any conditions, running a NCAA‑leading 13.07 in the 110m hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida. Davis earned a personal best in the hammer throw with a conference‑leading mark of 56.77m at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Wofford’s Taylor Jennings‑Ward has been selected as the women’s outdoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. This week’s honorees competed at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. Jennings‑Ward ran a personal‑best 54.91 in the 400‑meter dash. She finished third at the meet, and her time now leads all Southern Conference performances. Roundtree recorded a conference‑leading 45.98m in the discus. The mark also ranks as the third‑best performance in Western Carolina program history. Roberts ran 52.71 in the 400‑meter hurdles to place second and set the conference‑leading mark. He also clocked 14.35 in the 110‑meter hurdles, another conference‑leading performance, finishing fifth overall. Cline placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.38m, improving his No. 5 all‑time performance in program history. His performance also ranks 15th in the NCAA East region. Davis won both the shot put (16.22m) and hammer throw (53.52m) at the UAB Invite. He now leads the SoCon in the shot put and ranks third in the hammer. Mbenda ran a conference-leading 64.80 in the 400-meter hurdles to win the event in her first-ever appearance at the distance. She also posted a 13.52 in the 100-meter hurdles, another conference-leading mark. Shaw claimed the women’s shot put and hammer throw titles at the UAB Invite, recording marks of 13.56m and 50.06m, respectively. SoCon announces Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Trevor Williams, Austin Cline, and Sadler Miller have been named the Southern Conference men’s track, men’s field, and women’s outdoor field athletes of the week, respectively. VMI’s Naturale Faison has been selected as the women’s outdoor track athlete of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. All four honorees competed at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge hosted by UNC Asheville on March 20–21. Williams earned an individual title and personal best in the 400 meters, winning the event in 48.52. The Catamounts sophomore now leads the conference in the event. Cline won the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 54.91 meters, a performance that ranks fifth all-time in Western Carolina history and leads the SoCon. Miller, a senior, captured the high jump title with a conference-leading clearance of 1.68 meters. Faison claimed individual titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. SoCon announces Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

Additionally, Samford’s Ellison Chadwick has been selected as the women’s outdoor field athlete of the week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Williams ran a 1:55.68 in the 800m to win the event at the South Alabama Invitational on March 14. The Chesterfield, Virginia, native opened the season less than half a second off his personal best of 1:55.17, which he set during the 2025 season. Cline recorded a personal‑best throw of 54.50m in the hammer throw at the South Alabama meet, moving him to fifth all‑time in Western Carolina history. The Catawba, North Carolina, native also won the shot put with a mark of 15.79m. Lysight raced to a win in the 100m hurdles with a personal‑best time of 13.79. The Western Carolina senior now ranks second all‑time in Catamounts history. Chadwick won the women’s long jump with a personal‑best leap of 6.09m at the Montevallo Falcon Classic last weekend. On the men’s side, The Citadel and Western Carolina also picked up nods as the Southern Conference indoor track and field men’s and women’s specialty awards were announced Wednesday.  The awards were voted on by the league’s ten outdoor coaches.  The Citadel’s Bradlee Jones, was voted the men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer. The Greenwood, South Carolina, native medaled in two events on the track, placing first in the 100-meter dash (10.47) and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.15.  ETSU newcomer Micailah Cook was named the women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer and Female Freshman of the Year after posting wins in the 200m and 400m, with times of 24.27 and 54.67, respectively. The Sandston, Virginia, native ran a personal best in the 200m prelims and followed with a personal best in the 400m prelims. Cook would then shave off .53 in the 400m finals, securing the win.   Wofford’s Sherika Christie, the SoCon championship meet MVP on the women’s side, earned Most Outstanding Field Performer. The native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, scored 35 points, including winning the long jump with a leap of 6.07m. The Wofford sophomore placed second in the triple jump (12.22m), fourth in the 100m hurdles (13.99), fifth in the javelin (42.64m) and high jump (1.61m), sixth in the shot put (12.07m), and eighth in the discus (36.49m).   Samford’s Bryce Davis, the SoCon championship meet MVP on the men’s side, earned Most Outstanding Field Performer honors. Davis collected 22 points over the two-day meet, winning the shot put with a heave of 16.28m. The Bulldogs freshman also had bronze finishes in both the hammer and discus.  Western Carolina’s Ethan Long and Samford’s Davis were named Co-Freshmen of the Year on the men’s side. Long collected three silver medals during the conference championship meet, finishing second in the 200m, 100m, and 4x100 meter relay.     For the fifth straight season, Samford’s Rod Tiffin was awarded Men’s Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to their fifth Indoor Track and Field Championship title in a row. On the Women’s side, Tiffin earned his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor and fourth in the last five seasons. <div class="payload-richtext">BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Samford’s men and women swept the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the fifth straight year on Tuesday at Shauna Yelton Field at The Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Highlights of the day included record-breaking performances from Furman’s Dylan Schubert in the 5,000m and Samford’s Bradley Franklin in the men’s 110m hurdles.   Samford’s men trailed by four points after day one but finished with a 42.5-point margin of victory on Tuesday, concluding with 217.5 points. Western Carolina finished second with 175 points, followed by Furman in third with 110.    The Bulldog women led by 27 points after day one and finished 78.5 points ahead of runner-up Western Carolina who scored 136.5 points. Wofford was third with 134 points.    Samford’s Bryce Davis was named the men’s Most Outstanding Athlete for the second straight year after scoring 22 points via a win in the shot put (16.28m) and two third-place finishes in the hammer throw (49.98m) and discus throw (44.10m).     On the women’s side, Wofford’s Sherika Christie scored 35 points to take the women’s Most Outstanding Athlete honors. Christie won the long jump with a jump of 6.07m. The Wofford sophomore placed second in the triple jump (12.22m), fourth in the 100m hurdles (13.99), fifth in the javelin (42.64m) and high jump (1.61m), sixth in the shot put (12.07m), and eighth in the discus (36.49m).     Samford’s Will Murray, Maddie Edwards, and Edie Smith earned the Knight Commission Pinnacle Awards as the student-athletes with the highest GPAs on the championship-winning squads. On the women’s side, Wofford collected the first gold medal of day 2 with Olivia Bagg’s win in the heptathlon, after scoring 4,795 points. Ellie Sawicki also collected a gold medal win for the Terriers with a heave of 41.95m in the discus.   The next gold medal presented is shared between teammates Sadler Miller and Imani Boyd from Western Carolina. The two Catamount jumpers finished the high jump in a jump off tie after clearing 1.71m. Miller and Boyd both set personal records with their conference championship performance.   ETSU collected 10 points with freshman Lexi Carter’s first-place finish in the women’s shot put.  Bucs senior Tya Blake also collected a gold medal in the triple jump with a leap of 12.24m. Micailah Cook doubled up on gold medals, finishing first in both the 200m and 400m.   Samford’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams clinched the program’s first ever gold medals in the events, clocking times of 46.00 and 3:43.65, respectively. Adeline Haisch collected 10 more points for the Bulldogs, posting a time of 4:28.37 in the 1,500m to defend her title in the race.  Additional gold medalists for the Bulldogs include defending champion Amiel Dabney in the 100m hurdles, Grace Lueders in the 800m and Maddie Edwards in the 400m hurdles.  Chattanooga senior Lesley Green secured 10 points for the Mocs with the top finish in the 5,000m. The Mocs also struck gold in the 100-meter dash after Ryleigh Simmons pulled out the win with a time of 12.05 seconds.   Men’s medal presentations kicked off with a Samford podium sweep in the discus. The Bulldogs’ Carl Henry, Eli Penix, and Bryce Davis finished first, second, and third, respectively. Adding to his bronze medal, Davis also collected a gold medal in the shot put with a heave of 16.28m.   Samford’s Bradley Franklin set a new conference record in the 110m-hurdles, clocking a gold medal time of 13.56. The Samford freshman also set a new personal record with the performance. The Bulldogs’ Arthur Chitty won the high jump after clearing 2.12m. Teammates Landon Wright won the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.89, and Ian Jones won the triple jump after reaching 15.40m. The home squad reeled in its third straight 4x400 meter relay gold with a time of 3:13.11.  Wofford came into conference championship with the top seeded 4x100 time, and left the conference championship with gold after finishing the race in 40.98 seconds.  VMI’s Nick Brown picked up 10 points for the Keydets with a season-best time of 47.52 in the 400m.   Furman’s Matthew Smith won the 800m finals with a time of 1:48.53. His Paladins' teammate Dylan Schubert won the 5,000m run with a meet record time of 14:11.06. Christopher Knight also had a first-place finish for Furman, claiming the top spot in the 1,500m.   The Citadel’s Bradlee Jones was the victor in both the 100 and 200m dashes with times of 10.47 and 21.15, respectively.  Western Carolina senior Damon Worley finished atop the leaderboard in the decathlon, scoring 6,690 points.    Samford’s outdoor title sweep came on the heels of its indoor sweep in February, marking the fifth season the Bulldogs have swept both indoor and outdoor championships.      Men’s results – Final  1. <div class="payload-richtext">BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Samford’s women and Furman’s men lead the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships after Monday’s first day of competition at Shauna Yelton Field at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Samford’s women, who have won five straight SoCon outdoor crowns, totaled 67 points. Wofford is second with 40 points and ETSU is third with 38.5. Furman’s men hold a one-point lead following day one after accumulating 49, while Western Carolina has scored 48. Samford is third with 45. Podium presentations kicked off with the women’s pole vault, where ETSU’s Allison Shingleton earned a gold medal after clearing 3.70m, resulting in a personal best for the Bucs freshman. Samford’s Emerson Simpson and Lindsey Havens rounded out the podium at second and third.  Wofford senior Danni Emmen claimed the day’s second gold medal in the women’s hammer throw, throwing a heave of 50m. Emily Danielson, The Citadel and Claire Harrison, Samford, finished second and third, respectively. All three athletes set personal records in the event.  Wofford picked up 10 more points with Sherika Christie’s win in the women’s long jump, clearing 6.07m. Ellison Chadwick of Samford and Tya Blake of ETSU finished in second and third, respectively.  Also claiming women's titles Monday were Samford’s Erin Longin in the javelin, Furman’s Nicole Matysik in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Furman’s Emma Jones in the 10,000-meter run. Matysik’s finish was her third win in the event, and second consecutive, after winning in 2022 and 2024.  On the men’s side, The Citadel’s Ridge Dowe placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.94m. Western Carolina’s Austin Cline and Samford’s Bryce Davis rounded out the event podium.  Furman’s Carson Williams bested his 2023 record-setting mark to chisel a new record in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. With a time of 8:39.87, Williams shaved nearly seven seconds off the previous record time, claiming first place. The Paladins swept the podium in the event as seniors Ethan Domitrovich and Casey Burr were the next two finishers.  VMI’s Keyandre Midgett secured his second-consecutive gold medal in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.29m, a season best for the Keydet senior.  Also securing gold on the men’s side were Samford’s Kyle Kaufelds in the javelin throw, Samford’s Jed Sisco in the pole vault, and Nicholas Goldstein in the 10,000-meter run. Kaufelds bested his gold medal performance from last season by .66m to defend his javelin title.    With half the decathlon in the books, Samford’s Garner Ezell, a freshman, leads with 3,598 points. Damon Worley of Western Carolina is second with 3,590 points and Samford’s Bryce Williamson is in third with 3,500 points.  With four of the heptathlon events complete, Wofford’s Olivia Bagg leads with 2,941 points. ETSU’s Brianna Baker is in second with 2,916 points and Wofford’s Isabelle Duchemin is in third after scoring 2,785 points.   The SoCon Championships resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. with the multis. <div class="payload-richtext">The Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place at Samford’s Shauna Yelton Field at The Samford Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday and Tuesday. This year marks the 100th championship for the men and 38th for the women.Monday’s schedule gets under way with the start of the decathlon at 9:00 a.m., followed by the start of the heptathlon at 9:15. The women’s pole vault final gets the field events started at 10:00 a.m., with the first track event, the preliminaries of the women’s 1,500-meter run, slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. In all, 12 champions will be crowned on the first day of competition – four on the track and eight in field events.Tuesday’s schedule opens with resumption of the decathlon at 9 a.m., with the heptathlon resuming at 9:15. Field events begin with the women’s shot put and women’s high jump finals at 11:15 a.m. and the women’s 4x100-meter relay gets the track events started at 1 p.m. The day concludes with the women’s and men’s 4x400-meter relays at 4:25 and 4:35, respectively, followed by the awards ceremony. Thirty events will crown champions on the final day of the meet.Samford is the defending champion on both the men’s and women’s sides. The Bulldog men claimed their sixth title overall and fourth straight last year, turning a 14-point day one deficit, into a 217-point win over runner-up VMI. Samford’s women claimed their fifth straight title and seventh overall last season, jumping out to a 48.5-point day-one lead and expanding that to an 82.5-point margin of victory over runner-up Wofford.Samford, which swept the men’s and women’s titles at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships for the sixth season in a row, holds healthy leads in this season’s outdoor power rankings, determined by the top eight times or scores that are reported by the schools for each event that will be conducted at this week’s championships.The Bulldog men have totaled 251.5 points in the power rankings, scoring in 17 of 21 events, including 28 points in the decathlon, to easily outdistance second place Western Carolina (144 points). Furman is third in the power rankings with 113 points.Samford’s women hold a narrow lead in this season’s power rankings, scoring in 17 of 21 events, for a total of 179 points. Western Carolina has totaled 153 points to rank second, after scoring in 15 of the events to be featured in the championship. The Keydet senior set a record in the women’s 100m dash during the 2024 championship, with a time of 11.35.-Furman’s Dylan Schubert leads the league in the men’s 10,000m run, and is on pace to break the championship meet record. Schubert has already bested the current mark during the regular season by nearly two minutes.-Furman’s Megan Marvin will look to win her fourth 800m run title in five years, after winning in 2021, 2022, and 2024. The Paladins’ senior is the current record holder in the event after clocking a time of 2:04.18 in 2021.-Western Carolina newcomer Ethan Long leads the league in the men’s 200m dashes by over half a second. Long enters the championship coming off a school-record breaking 100m (10.31) at the Catamount Classic and is tied for the top rank in the conference in the event.-On the women’s side ETSU newcomer Micailah Cook leads the league in the 100m and 200m dashes.-Samford men’s 4x100 and 4x400 teams will be looking to win their third consecutive titles in the relays.-Wofford’s women’s 4x100 will be seeking a fifth-straight title in the event, while the 4x4 relay will be looking to go back-to-back.</div>

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Bradlee Jones and Samford’s Kyle Kaufelds have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively. Additionally, Furman’s Nysa Males and Samford’s Erin Long claimed women’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.  Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from April 30-May 5. On May 3, Jones competed at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida. The Bulldogs sophomore placed sixth in the 100m after running a 10.38 in the final. His 10.31 ran in the prelims of the event, knots him in a tie for the top mark in the league this season, and is also .01 from tying The Citadel’s school record. Samford competed at Mississippi State’s Maroon and White Tune Up on May 1-2.  Kaufelds threw a heave of 65.78 meters, claiming the runner up spot in the javelin. His performance was just short of his league leading mark.  Males competed at the Music City Challenge on May 2, in Nashville, Tennessee. Placing sixth in the women’s 1,500m with a time of 4:22.75, the Furman freshman is ranked third in the conference this season. Long claimed first with a mark of 49.46m in the javelin, besting her previous league-leading mark.
