SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman midfielder Maddie Massie and Paladins goalkeeper Reese DeJong have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Oct. 20-26.
Massie scored a goal in Furman’s 2-0 win at ETSU on Oct. 23. The senior from Birmingham, Alabama, found the back of the net in the 21st minute off a pass from teammate Katie Villiger, converting the eventual game-winning goal. Massie’s goal was her second game-winning score of the season.
DeJong, who also won the honor on Sept. 8, played all 90 minutes inside the net in the Paladins’ win over ETSU. The junior logged six saves in the team’s victory. The native of Huntersville, North Carolina, recorded her sixth shutout of the season against the Bucs, which is fourth in the NCAA.
Furman, who is unbeaten in its last eight matches, will travel to Mercer on Thursday, before concluding the season with a home match against Western Carolina.
