EUGENE, Oregon -- Furman senior&nbsp;Dylan Schubert&nbsp;earned an honorable mention All-America citation in the 5,000m finals Friday at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track &amp; Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.A native of Loveland, Colo., Schubert finished 19th with a time of 14:06.41.&nbsp; The competitors ran in a slow pack throughout the majority of the race, with the pace only picking up in the final few laps.The top eight finishers in Friday's finals were deemed first team All-Americans, with finishers nine through 12 earning second team All-America accolades.&nbsp; Honorable mention All-America citations were bestowed on athletes who finished in 17th through 24th place.Schubert won the 5,000m at the NCAA East Preliminaries, shattering the facility record with a time of 13:50.99.&nbsp; With the victory, he became the first regional winner in the history of the Furman men's track and field program.&nbsp; Schubert entered the meet, his second East preliminary and first in the 5,000m, ranked tenth after qualifying with a time of 13:36.98.&nbsp;The outdoor All-America citation caps off a historic season for Schubert.&nbsp; The 2023 SoCon Cross Country Runner of the Year, he won the league's individual cross country title and led the Paladins to their 11th-straight SoCon title in the fall.&nbsp; Schubert went on to win the NCAA Southeast Region cross country meet, setting a new course record and becoming the first individual region champion in the history of the Furman cross country program.&nbsp; At the cross country national championships, he placed 24th, claiming his second-straight All-America scroll. &nbsp;During the 2024 indoor season, Schubert ran a sub-4:00 mile of 3:58.38 at the USC Indoor Open and won SoCon titles in both the 5,000m and the distance medley relay, then he captured the league 1,500m title during outdoor season.NCAA ChampionshipsFridayMen's 5,000m Finals -&nbsp;<a href="https://furmanpaladins.com/sports/track-and-field/roster/dylan-schubert/5566">Dylan Schubert</a>&nbsp;- 19th - 14:06.41

Birmingham, Ala.&nbsp;– Samford’s men and women swept the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the fourth straight year Tuesday at &nbsp;Shauna Yelton Field at The Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Highlights of the day included Wofford’s Jasmine Jefferson’s four gold medals and three meet records falling.
 &nbsp;
 Samford’s men trailed by eight points after day one but finished with a 84-point margin of victory Tuesday, concluding with 217 points. VMI finished second with 133 points, followed by Furman in third with 100.
 &nbsp;
 The Bulldog women led by 48.5 points after day one and finished 82.5 ahead of runner-up Wofford, which finished second for the fourth time in the last five championships and scored 130 points, the most in program history. Western Carolina was third with 107.5 points.
 &nbsp;
 Samford’s Campbell was named the men’s Most Outstanding Athlete for the second year after scoring 23 points via wins in the 400-meter dash (47.09), 4x100-meter relay (40.77) and 4x400-meter relay (3:11.36) and a second place finish in the 200-meter (20.96).
 &nbsp;
 On the women’s side, Samford’s Hannah Daffin scored 28 points to take women’s Most Outstanding Athlete honors. Daffin won the hammer throw (51.50 meters), shot put (13.74) and placed second in the discus (39.09 meters).

 Samford’s Andrew McGinnis and Savannah Schmidt earned the Pinnacle Awards as the student-athletes with the highest GPAs on the championship-winning squads.

 Samford’s men won eight of the 13 events contested Tuesday.
 &nbsp;
 Moore won gold for second consecutive year in the 110-meter hurdles, blazing to a 13.92-second mark.
 &nbsp;
 Also victorious for the Bulldogs were Jackson Olivo in the 400-meter hurdles (52.89), Samford’s fifth straight in the event. Jaggerd Moore won the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.03 meters. The 800-meter run was won by Samford’s Zephaniah Carico-McLennan with a time of 1:49.14, edging out ETSU’s Miguel Parrilla.
 &nbsp;
 Campbell won Samford’s second-ever SoCon title in the 400m, defending his title with a time of 47.09. Malcolm, Evan Brooks, Tyke Tabor, and Campbell combined to win the 4x100, while Campbell, Carico-McLennan, Jackson Olivo and Tabor capped the meet with the win in the 4x400. Carl Henry won the shot put with a heave of 15.38 meters.
 &nbsp;
 VMI’s Isaiah Blount won two of the 10 decathlon events to total 6,873 points. He logged two decathlon event records in the Shotput and Discus to come from behind and win gold.
 &nbsp;
 The Citadel’s Solomon Ghosh successfully defended his title in the discus, winning his third straight crown with a toss of 49.65 meters.
 &nbsp;
 VMI’s Keyandre Midgett won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 15.24 meters.

 Cameron Ponder won Furman’s eighth straight title in the men’s 5,000-meter run, winning in 14:31.15. Dylan Schubert won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:48.53, the first title in the event for the Paladins since 2021

 Wofford’s Cameron Dalton won the 100 meter in dramatic fashion just edging out Samford’s Cole Grande with a time of 10:56, to secure Wofford’s first win in the event. He then won the 200-meter race, setting a new SoCon record from 1977, turning in a time of 20.64.
 &nbsp;
 On the women’s side, Samford claimed five individual titles Tuesday. Hannah Daffin defended her 2022 and 2023 crown in the shot put with a throw of 13.74 meters, while freshman Emma Nolte took home the discus crown with a throw of 42.89 meters. Adeline Haisch won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:27.31, the first Bulldog to win the event since 2019 and Amiel Dabney took home gold in the 100-meter hurdles in 13:85. Samford’s Ayden Drake won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.45.
 &nbsp;
 Wofford claimed five event wins Tuesday, with Jasmine Jefferson involved in four of them. She set a new SoCon Championship record in the 400-meter with a time of 53.27.She later won the 200-meter dash logging a time of 24.01, beating defending champion Mecca Jackson of The Citadel.
 &nbsp;
 Jefferson was joined on the winning relay by Ella Tennant, Olivia Bagg, and Madeline McNinch as Wofford claimed the 4x100 for the fourth straight championship. Marga Van Der Linde, Jefferson, Brooke Sayre, and Dannielle King took gold in the 4x400 meter with a time of 3:11.36.
 &nbsp;
 Olivia Bagg won the heptathlon with 4,776 points, claiming four of the seven events and becoming Wofford’s fourth different winner in the last five championships.
 &nbsp;
 Western Carolina claimed two event wins Tuesday, starting with Heidi Hudson who took the high jump crown clearing 1.75 meters. Jasmine Greene then defended her title and won the triple jump with a leap of 11.38 meters.
 &nbsp;
 VMI’s Eleyah Armstrong won the 100-meter dash, setting a new SoCon record of 11.35 and beating out defeating champion Mecca Jackson by less than half a second. This was the Keydets’ first gold medal in this event
 &nbsp;
 Furman’s Megan Marvin won the 800-meter run in 2:07.01, her third SoCon Championship gold medal in the event
 &nbsp;
 Sierra Bower won Furman’s ninth straight title in the 5,000-meter run, clocking 17:30.56, with Lillian Feingold and Bethany Graham finishing second and third, respectively, for a Paladin podium sweep.
 &nbsp;
 Samford’s outdoor title sweep came on the heels of its indoor sweep in February, marking the fourth season the Bulldogs have swept both indoor and outdoor championships.

 The NCAA Regional fields will be announced on Thursday, May 9th, via press release at NCAA.com.

Samford sweeps SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Birmingham, Ala. –&nbsp;VMI’s men and Samford’s women lead the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships after Monday’s first day of competition at Shauna Yelton Field at The Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
 &nbsp;
 Samford’s women, who have won four straight SoCon outdoor crowns, totaled 79.5 points and won two individual titles handed out on Monday, with Hannah Daffin successfully defending her title. The Citadel followed in second with 31 points, and ETSU in third with 30.
 &nbsp;
 On the men’s side, VMI accumulated 56 points on the strength of three wins of its own, with Andrew Granger winning his second hammer title and Keyandre Midgett and Cameron Thomas winning their first individual titles. Furman’s men are second with 48 points and host Samford is tied for third with Western Carolina at 42.
 &nbsp;
 Diana Romero-Barba beat two-time champion Brittany Bishop for the pole vault clearing 3.70 meters on her first attempt. Freshman Antonina Tereshenko of Samford joined the podium in third.&nbsp;
 The Citadel’s Ali Ruffin won her first title in the javelin, finishing more than 5 meters ahead of runner-up Jasmine Hampton with a throw of 47.44 meters.
 &nbsp;
 Daffin claimed her third straight title in the hammer throw, claiming the crown with her toss of 51.50 meters.
 &nbsp;
 Also claiming women’s title Monday were Samford’s Ellison Chadwick in the long jump, Furman’s Nicole Matysik in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Chattanooga’s Lesley Green in the 10,000-meter run. Chadwick’s leap of 5.90 meters was good for the Bulldogs’ first win in the event since joining the conference, while Matysik’s title was the second event win for the Paladin who shaved 15 second off her 2022 title winning time. Feingold won Furman’s fourth 10K title in five years, finishing almost 20 seconds ahead of teammate Emma Jones.
 &nbsp;
 Furman’s Cameron Ponder won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:52.32. This is the second consecutive 3,000-meter steeple chase win for the Paladins.
 &nbsp;
 VMI freshman Cameron Thomas pulled out the win in the pole vault with a height of 4.95 meters. Samford’s Carter Ellis and VMI’s Isaiah Blount finished second and third, respectively.
 &nbsp;
 Kaufelds became the fourth different Bulldog in as many years to win the javelin, with a throw of 62.40 meters.
 &nbsp;
 Keyandre Midgett claimed the title in the long jump, leaping 7.36 meters with teammate Charles Male finishing in second and Western Carolina’s Noah Straley coming in third.
 &nbsp;
 Furman’s Owen Shifflett won the 10,000-meter run crown. The freshman finished more than ten seconds ahead of teammate Micholas Goldstein who came in second place. To finish the Paladin podium sweep, Luke Taylor came in third place.
 &nbsp;
 VMI’s Andrew Granger picked up the first men’s title of the day, unleashing a toss of 56.03 meters to win the hammer throw by almost four meters. ETSU’s Brent Bell claimed the second podium spot, while VMI’s Rafe Clendenin finished in third.
 &nbsp;
 With half the decathlon in the books, Samford’s Werner, a freshman, leads with 3,607 points after winning three of the five events Monday – the 100-meter run, the long jump, and the 400-meter run. Williamson of Samford is second with 3,577 points and VMI’s Blount is in third with 3,504 points.
 &nbsp;
 With four of the heptathlon events complete, Wofford’s Olivia Bagg leads with 2,887 points after winning the 100-meter dash. Samford’s Pettyjohn is in second with 2,848 points, and ETSU’s Baker has 2,825 points landing her in third place.
 &nbsp;

Highlights of the day included Wofford's Jasmine Jefferson's four gold medals and three meet records falling. &nbsp;Samford's Campbell was named the men's Most Outstanding Athlete for the second year after scoring 23 points via wins in the 400-meter dash (47.09), 4x100-meter relay (40.77) and 4x400-meter relay (3:11.36) and a second place finish in the 200-meter (20.96). &nbsp; On the women's side, Samford's Hannah Daffin scored 28 points to take women's Most Outstanding Athlete honors. 2024 SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Cameron Ponder and VMI’s Isaiah Blount have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Samford’s Katie Keller and The Citadel’s Ali Ruffin earned the respective awards on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday. 
  
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from April 24-30. 
  
Furman’s Ponder competed at the Jordan Payton Invitational hosted by Stanford, finishing 10th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:47.67. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, product is currently first in the SoCon in the event, 20th in the East Region and 43rd in the NCAA. 
  
VMI’s Blount finished third in the men’s pole vault at the Penn Relays this week. The junior from Milford, Virginia, cleared 4.71 meters as a decathlete, moving him into fourth place on the Southern Conference pole vault performance list. 
  
Competing at the Maroon and White Invitational hosted by Mississippi State, Keller placed third in the 800-meter, logging a time of 2:07.26. The senior set a new personal best in the event and currently ranks first in the conference. 
 
The Citadel’s Ruffin competed at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida, where she placed second in the javelin, resetting her previous school record by two meters with a throw of 47.58 meters. The Greenville, North Carolina, product leads the SoCon in the event and ranks 25th in the East Region. In addition to her Javelin record, the junior holds another school record for kills in a single volleyball season.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI’s Isaiah Blount and Samford’s Cameron Jaggerd Moore have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Furman’s Megan Marvin and Western Carolina’s Heidi Hudson earned the respective awards on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday. 
  
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from April 10-16. 
  
VMI’s Blount competed at the South Side Power and Fitness Invitational in Hickory, North Carolina, and set a personal record by 600 points in the decathlon. The junior’s 6832-point performance earned first place at the invitational. The Milford, Virginia, product is currently second on the SoCon performance list in the event. 
  
Samford’s Moore competed at the Doc Anderson Invitational in Troy, Alabama, where he won the high jump, clearing 2.11 meters. The sophomore from Trussville, Alabama, currently leads the conference with his mark that has made regional in all previous seasons. 
  
Competing at the Electric City Invitational in Anderson, South Carolina, Marvin placed first in the 800-meter run, logging a time of 2:07.44. The senior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, also finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:55.28. Her 800-time put her in the conference lead. 
 
Western Carolina’s Hudson also competed at the Duke Invitational in Durham, North Carolina, where she finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,692 points.  The freshman from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, currently leads the conference in the heptathlon as well as the high jump having cleared 1.78 meters in her heptathlon competition.

Saturday's Outdoor Track and Field Roundup(32227)

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Zephaniah Carico-McLennan and VMI’s Cameron Thomas have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Wofford’s Jasmine Jefferson and Samford’s Hannah Daffin earned the respective awards on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday. 
  
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all outdoor competition to date. 
  
Samford’s Carico-McLennan competed at the Alabama Invite in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:47.64. The freshman from Austin, Texas, currently ranks first in the conference, fifth in the region and 11th nationally in the event. He also competed in the 4x400 relay, which earned Samford a third-place finish with a time of 3:10.43. 
  
VMI’s Thomas competed at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational on April 5, where he broke his own school record in the pole vault, clearing 5.06 meters. The freshman placed second in the event and currently ranks second in the conference. 
  
Competing at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Florida, on April 6, Jefferson placed third in the 400-meter run, logging a new school record time of 53.13. The senior from Knoxville, Tennessee leads the conference in the event and is ranked 19th in the East Region. 
 
Samford’s Daffin also competed at the Alabama Invite in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she threw 53.51 meters in the hammer throw. The graduate student from Mobile, Alabama, currently ranks first in the SoCon in the event.

BASEBALL 
PLAYER 
Justin Starke, VMI, R-Sr., Prince George, Va.

	<li>Posted a .441 batting average (30-for-68)</li>
	<li>Recorded 11 extra-base hits with six home runs, four doubles and a triple, scored 24 runs and had 16 RBIs</li>
	<li>Finished with a .794 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage</li>
	<li>Was 7-for-9 in stolen bases</li>
	<li>Currently third in the SoCon with a .435 batting average</li>
	<li>Led the Keydets with 10 multi-hit games, while recording a hit in 14 of the 20 games played in March</li>

	<li>Shared ninth place at The Show at Spanish Trail on March 4-5, which was co-hosted by UNLV and Furman, with a 1-under 215 (73-69-73) and finished six strokes behind individual medalist Zoe Campos (-7) of UCLA</li>
	<li>Tied for 23rd at the Valspar Augusta Invitational with a 1-over-par 217 (73-73-71) on March 8-10, eight strokes off the pace set by Florida State’s Mirabel Ting</li>

	<li>He also ran a 4x800 relay, registering a 1:51.21 split and first place finish for ETSU</li>
	<li>At the Raleigh Relays on March 28, he finished eighth in the 5000 meter with a personal best time of 13:42.68</li>
	<li>Currently ranked first in the SoCon in the 1500 meter and 5000 meter and second in the 800 meters and in the top 10 in the East Region and top 15 in the NCAA for his 5000 meter time</li>
