SoCon announces CBS Sports Network men’s basketball schedule
Five regular-season league games set for national telecast
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five regular-season Southern Conference men’s basketball games will air on CBS Sports Network this season.
“The Southern Conference’s partnership with CBS Sports creates tremendous opportunities for the SoCon’s high-quality basketball programs to be seen across the country,” SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross said. “Our student-athletes, coaches, and their institutions consistently provide compelling competition and great matchups, and this year is no exception. We are fired up to utilize CBS Sports Network’s national platform so that the country can see what we mean when we say ‘It’s all here’ in the SoCon.”
The first game in the package will be on Wednesday, Jan. 1, when UNCG visits Wofford at Noon. The Spartans won both matchups a season ago by double figures en route to finishing tied for second in the conference standings with a 21-11 record and a 12-6 SoCon record. The Terriers were 17-15 overall and 10-8 in conference games in 2023-24 to complete the season tied for fourth in the league.
UNCG at Chattanooga on Thursday, Jan. 9, will be the second featured game for the league. The Mocs finished tied for second in the SoCon standings last season alongside the Spartans, also recording a 21-12 overall record. The two squads split their two games during the 2023-24 season, with both games being won by the road team.
ETSU travels to Samford, the reigning regular season and tournament champion, on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Buccaneers were 19-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play last season to finish tied for seventh in the league, but advanced to the 2024 SoCon Tournament final after winning three games at the Ingles SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship. The Bulldogs went 29-6 overall and 15-3 during SoCon games in 2023-24. Samford advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first since 2000 after its tournament championship, falling to Kansas 93-89 in the opening round.
The next game on the schedule is a matchup between the last two SoCon tournament champions when Samford goes to Furman on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The Paladins had an 17-16 overall mark and 10-8 conference record in 2023-24 before falling in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament.
Furman at ETSU on Sunday, Feb. 2, rounds out the league’s games on CBS Sports Network. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on Feb. 1.
