SoCon announces men’s basketball league schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its 2024-25 men’s basketball league schedule Tuesday. The SoCon’s 10 men’s basketball teams will all play double-round-robin, 18-game intraleague schedules, totaling 90 league contests over nine weeks from Wednesday, Jan. 1, to Saturday, March 1.

All 10 teams open league play on Jan. 1. After another full lineup of games on Saturday, Jan. 4, the schedule settles into a Wednesday-Saturday format outside a pair of Thursday games on Jan. 9 and Feb. 27. UNCG versus Chattanooga and VMI against Samford will be the home-and-home matchups on those two Thursdays. Additional games might later be moved due to national television assignments.

Among other notable games on the slate this season, Samford hosts ETSU on Saturday, Jan. 18, in a matchup of the two squads that squared off for the tournament title back in March. The teams face off again exactly three weeks later at ETSU.

Mercer’s Ryan Ridder, who comes to Macon after three seasons as the head man at UT Martin, begins his first stint through the league when the Bears host Chattanooga. Western Carolina’s Tim Craft, who served as the head coach at Gardner-Webb for the last 11 seasons, opens his first season in Cullowhee at home versus Furman on New Year’s Day.

The 2025 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship will take place at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina, from March 7-10.

Full broadcast schedules will be announced later, but all 10 schools’ home games will air on ESPN+ if not selected for national or regional broadcast. Five SoCon regular-season games and three tournament games aired on ESPN networks last season, while another five regular-season contests aired on CBS Sports Network. The league broadcast schedule will also continue to feature its Ingles SoCon Game of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates throughout the Southeast.

The 104th season of Southern Conference basketball opens with nonconference play on Monday, Nov. 4.
