Mercer wins in overtime; Chattanooga gets its fourth straight win; UNCG tops Long Beach State

Mercer 90, Jacksonville 89 (OT)

Freshman Brady Shoulders knocked made a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and Tyler Johnson made four pressure free throws in overtime as the Mercer Bears overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Jacksonville, 90-89 in overtime on Monday afternoon in the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament.
With Mercer trailing, 74-71 in the final seconds of regulation, Shoulders connected on a three-pointer in the corner to tie the game with five seconds to play to force overtime. Shoulders finished with a career high 13 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.

UNCG 71, Long Beach State 48

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team opened the 2024 Ball Dawgs Classic with a 71-48 victory against Long Beach State (LBSU) on Monday night at Lee's Family Forum.
Kenyon Giles paced the game with a season-high 22 points. Donovan Atwell was second on the team with 16 points, one shy of his season high.

Chattanooga 85, Tennessee State 78

The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team erased an early double-digit deficit with a strong second half performance to win its fourth-straight game, defeating in-state foe Tennessee State 85-78 on the opening day of the Coke Classic MTE event Monday night inside McKenzie Arena.
 
Trailing 37-31 at the halftime break, Chattanooga (4-3) out-scored Tennessee State (3-4) 54-41 over the final 20 minutes by capitalizing at the free-throw line during the physical contest that saw 40 total foul calls. UTC finished 28-of-36 (77.8%) from the line during the win which included a hefty 24-of-29 (82.8%) mark in the second half.
