Furman’s Smith named SoCon Player of the Week
Senior hits a game-winner in his first action of the season
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman guard PJay Smith Jr. has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Nov. 4-10. The award is selected by the league office.
Smith, a preseason all-conference selection, missed the team’s season opener on Nov. 4, but made his season debut four days later. On Nov. 8 at Belmont, the senior had 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, along with five assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block in a 76-74 victory. The native of Lavergne, Tennessee, played 25 minutes in the game, scoring the final five points for Furman, including the game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds left in the game.
Furman (2-0) hosts Jacksonville on Monday at 7 p.m. before welcoming Tulane on Saturday at 7 p.m.
