Wofford’s Holmes named SoCon Player of the Week
Guard sets a new career high in points
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Kahmare Holmes has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by Ingles for all contests from Jan. 19-25. The award is selected by the league office.
Holmes led Wofford in scoring in both of the Terriers’ games last week as the squad went 2-0. On Jan. 21, the sophomore poured in a career-high 36 points as Wofford defeated Samford, 88-78. Holmes also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the contest. The native of Charlotte, North Carolina, recorded another strong performance on Jan. 24, finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, one steal and a block in an 80-77 win over Mercer. Holmes’ performance against the Bears marked the sixth straight game that he scored 20 points or more.
For the week, Holmes averaged 31.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists, while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. Holmes is currently second in the SoCon in scoring (19.3) and first in steals (2.2) per game.
Wofford (14-7, 6-2 SoCon) plays at Chattanooga on Jan. 29, before returning home to face league-leading ETSU on Jan. 31.
