Mercer’s Mighty named SoCon Player of the Week
Center shines in a pair of road wins for the Bears
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer center Armani Mighty has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by Ingles for all contests from Jan. 12-18. The award is selected by the league office.
Mighty posted two double-doubles for Mercer as the Bears went 2-0 last week. On Jan. 15, Mighty had 18 points and 25 rebounds in a 77-67 victory over VMI. The redshirt junior’s 25 boards marked the second-best output in program history and were the most rebounds in a game by any player inside VMI’s Cameron Hall. Two days later, the native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds, while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field as Mercer defeated UNCG, 102-92, for its fourth straight win.
For the week, Mighty averaged 19.0 points, 19.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. Mighty shot 88.2 percent from the field over the two games.
Mercer (12-7, 4-2 SoCon) hosts Western Carolina on Jan. 21, before heading to Wofford on Jan. 24.
