Wofford’s Machowski named SoCon Player of the Week
Guard leads the Terriers to a pair of conference road wins
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Nils Machowski has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Dec. 29-Jan. 4. The award is selected by the league office.
Machowski poured in 27 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in Wofford’s 79-74 win at Western Carolina on New Year’s Eve. The junior also had two assists, a steal and a block in the contest. On Jan. 3, the native of Berlin, Germany, scored a career-high 37 points as the Terriers defeated The Citadel, 95-86, for their second straight win of the week. Machowski’s 37 points was the highest total of any SoCon player this season and marked the highest output by any Wofford player since Fletcher Magee had 36 at Samford in 2019.
For the week, Machowski averaged 32 points and 4.5 rebounds, shooting 65.6 percent form the floor and 60 percent from behind the arc. Machowski was also named the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week on Monday.
Wofford (10-5, 2-0 SoCon) hosts its first SoCon contest versus UNCG at 6 p.m. on Jan. 7. The game will be broadcast on select Nexstar affiliates across the Southeast. The Terriers travel to Mercer on Jan. 10.
