Henley, White Lead Lady Paladins Past Georgia Southern 1-0

Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Rachel Henley tossed a complete game, three-hit
shutout while Kristin White doubled and scored the game's only run to lead
Furman to a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern in softball action Sunday
afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. The Lady Paladins won the three-game series
2-1.

White, who drove in the winning run in game one of Saturday's
doubleheader, led off the sixth inning with a double into the left
centerfield gap. After LaKerah Barr advanced White to third with a
sacrifice bunt, the senior scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of
JoDee Eichelberger.

Henley, after defeating the Eagles 2-1 on Saturday, struck out five
without allowing a walk to improve to 7-13 on the season. Dating back to
the conference opener last weekend at UNC Greensboro, the righthander has
not surrendered an earned run in 32.1 innings in the circle.

Cary Moone (8-7) was the tough luck loser for Georgia Southern. Moone
baffled Furman batters, striking out 14 Lady Paladins in six innings of
work.

The win, Furman's fourth in five games, improves the Lady Paladins to 9-30
overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play.

Georgia Southern drops to
18-18 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Furman returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Winthrop in a
non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. before traveling to the College of
Charleston for a key SoCon series next weekend.


Cougars Take Down Mountaineers on Cone's Walk Off Home Run

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Amanda Cone hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth to lead the College of Charleston softball team to a 4-3 win over the Appalachian State in Southern Conference action at Patriots Point. The Cougars improve to 27-14 overall and 4-2 in SoCon play while the Mountaineers fall to 12-22 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Cone's walk off blast to lead off the eighth was a 2-2 pitch that was hit out to center field. Jacquie Rothey also used the long ball to help the Cougars also hitting a two run home run to straight away center field in the fifth inning. The Cougars led 3-0 entering the top of the sixth.

Appalachian State scored a run in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Lindsay Glover led the way for the Mountaineers with two RBI and went 3-for-4 in the game.

Rachel Stern pitched three innings giving up two runs and striking out seven to earn the win and improves to 12-7 on the season. Jennifer Hurley pitched the last four innings and gave up three runs and falls to 4-8.

It was the second consecutive game that Cone has driven in the winning run against the Mountaineers.

The Cougars next travel to UNC Charlotte on Tuesday for a double header against the 49ers. Appalachian State faces Radford on the road on April 7th at 4:00.
