LADY MOCS MOVE AHEAD OF FURMAN IN SOCON WITH SWEEP
(April 18)

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Lady Mocs softball team swept two games from Furman Friday night and moved ahead of the Lady Paladins into third place in the Southern Conference standings. Chattanooga won 4-0 in the opener and followed with a 10-4 victory in the nightcap. Jennifer Reed was 4-4 with 5 RBIs in game two to lead the Lady Mocs.

With game two tied 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning and the bases loaded, Reed sent a line drive down the left field line for her second double of the night. The hit scored two runs for the Lady Mocs to return them to the lead for good. Paige Cochrane dropped a hit into short left field to score Reed and advance Jada Pescatore who was intentionally walked. Leslie Barron walked to load the bases for Grace Pickett sent a single into left field scoring Pescatore. Cochrane was thrown out at the plate to end a four-run inning.

Reed sent a hit to the fence in right center in the bottom of the sixth for a triple. Lindsey Brown was 2-3 on the night with one RBI. Awbrey Winckler struck out four and walked only one in game two to move the senior to 14-12 on the season.

The Lady Paladins used three pitchers allowing 12 hits and walking four batters in the loss. Karen Myers was 2-2 with one RBI and LaKerah Barr had two hits, including a double, and had one RBI. Kate Morrison had the Paladins only other RBI on one hit in four at-bats.

In game one, the Lady Mocs had a pair of two-run innings and freshman Sara Meek pitched a shutout to put Chattanooga in a tie with the Paladins at third. Meek struck out five, walked three and allowed only three hits on the night.

Chattanooga went up 2-0 in the second inning with Lindsey Brown drawing a lead-off walk. Pescatore, playing in just her second game since a knee injury sidelined the senior, reached first on a hit back to the pitcher. Cochrane reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on the throw allowing Brown to score and pinch-runner Jayme Putman to reach third. Putman would then score on a single into right field by Barron. The Lady Mocs added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back doubles by Bryn Favor and Ramirez.
