SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s John Houk has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 29 to April 4. The selection is made by the league office.
Houk won the Wofford Invitational, which wrapped on Tuesday. The junior posted rounds of 62-67-67 for a tournament score of 17-under-par 196 to grab his first individual title as a Moc. Houk’s performance in the first round tied the program’s record for a round and his 36-hole mark set a new school record. The Etowah, Tennessee, native’s 196 is the second-best score in Chattanooga history, behind only Oliver Simonsen’s 195 from the 2018 Memphis Intercollegiate. Houk, who was one of three Mocs to break 200 in the event, had three eagles and 17 birdies in the tournament, both of which led the field.
Chattanooga won the 17-team, 90-golfer Wofford Invitational. The Mocs shot 269 in the first round, 275 in the second round and 265 in the final round for a tournament score of 43-under-par 809, which gave the team a 30-stroke victory. The Mocs set three school records during the tournament. Chattanooga set a 36-hole program record after the second round before its 265 set a program record for a round on the final day. The squad’s 809 for the tournament crushed the previous program record by 10 strokes.
The Mocs will be back in action on April 8-9 at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.
