SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU men’s golfer Mats Ege has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from April 19-25. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Ege earned medalist honors at the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship, shooting a 54-hole score of 14-under-par 202 over the course of the three-day tournament. After opening with a 6-under 66 on Sunday, Ege posted consecutive 68s on Monday and Tuesday. The redshirt sophomore from Kristiansand, Norway, tallied six birdies on the back nine in Tuesday’s final round in helping ETSU rally from an 11-stroke deficit for its third straight team title.
 
Ege led the field with 21 birdies over the 54-hole tournament, while he also paced the group in par-5 scoring (-11) and was second in par-4 scoring (-4).
 
Ege became ETSU’s fourth straight individual medalist, a feat the Bucs hadn’t accomplished since 1979-82. He won ETSU’s 18^th individual SoCon title, while the Bucs have now claimed 23 team crowns.
 
In addition to winning the SoCon tournament, Ege was also named to the 2023 Palmer Cup for Team International on Tuesday.
 
A management major, Eges boasts a 3.353 GPA.
