ETSU maintains lead at SoCon Men’s Golf Championship after day two

Bucs’ Ege and Chattanooga’s Conroy share the lead at 10-under-par

GREENSBORO, Ga. – ETSU holds a one-stroke lead at the 2023 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship following the second round of play at par-72, 7,393-yard Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia. ETSU’s Mats Ege and Chattanooga’s Paul Conroy share the individual lead at 10-under-par 134.
 
The Buccaneers shot a 7-under-par 281 in round two after finishing the first round with a 14-under 274 to make their tournament score 21-under 555 following the second round. Chattanooga had the best team score of the day at 9-under 279 to close its deficit to one stroke after shooting a 11-under 277 in round one.
 
Furman sits in third place at 8-under 568 after a second-round score of 3-over 291. Mercer and Western Carolina are tied for fourth at even-par 576. UNCG moved up one spot in the standings to sit in sixth after shooting 3-over 291 on day two to make its overall score 7-over 583. Wofford is in seventh place at 10-over 586 and Samford rounds out the leaderboard at 13-over 589.
 
Conroy posted the best individual round of day two after shooting a 5-under 67 for the second straight day. Conroy is the only golfer that has shot an eagle on both days of the tournament. Ege shot a 4-under 68 in round two to remain atop the individual leaderboard after sharing the lead with teammate Matthew Dodd-Berry after round one. Ege is tied with Mercer’s Tobias Jonsson for the most birdies in the tournament with 12.
 
Dodd-Berry is in third place at 9-under-par 135 and Jonsson is in fourth place with an overall score of 5-under-par 139. Chattanooga’s Garrett Engle rounds out the top 5 with a score of 4-under 140 after shooting a 2-under 70 on each day.
 
Braedon Wear of Chattanooga and Archie Davies of ETSU are tied for sixth at 3-under-par 141. Both golfers shot a 2-under 70 in the first round and a 1-under 71 in the second round. A trio of golfers are tied for eighth place – Furman’s Will Morlan and Sam Lape and Western Carolina’s Adam Hooker – after posting overall scores of 2-under-par 142.
