SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s John Houk has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 5-11. The selection is made by the league office.
Houk, who won the honor for the second straight week, finished tied for third at the Hoosier Collegiate, which wrapped Sunday. The native of Etowah, Tennessee, posted rounds of 75-69-70 for a tournament score of 1-over-par 214. The junior played the final 40 holes of the event at 3-under-par with seven birdies, 30 pars and just four bogeys. Houk’s performance was the third time this season that he finished in the top five of an event.
Chattanooga won the 14-team, 78-golfer Hoosier Collegiate. The Mocs shot 293 in the first round, 291 in the second round and 286 in the final round for a tournament score of 870, which gave the team a nine-stroke victory. Chattanooga’s team win was its fourth of the season, giving the squad the second-most wins in school history for a season.
The Mocs will be back in action on April 23-25 at the SoCon Championship in Greensboro, Georgia.
