SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Garrett Engle has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 15-21. The selection is made by the league office.
Engle finished tied for fourth at Linger Longer Invitational, which wrapped play Tuesday. The native of Eatonton, Georgia, posted rounds of 70-71-70 for a tournament score of 5-under-par 211. The sophomore shared the fourth spot with Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, who is the nation’s top-ranked golfer, and led the field in birdies with 18.
Chattanooga finished tied for fifth in the 16-team, 91-golfer Linger Longer Invitational. The Mocs shot 296 in the first round, 288 in the second round and 284 in the final round for a tournament score of 4-over-par 868. Chattanooga defeated 16th-ranked Virginia in the event, giving the squad its first win over a top-20 opponent since March 2017, when the Mocs beat Georgia, who was ranked No. 19.
The Mocs will be back in action on April 3-4 in the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
