SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Symon Balbin has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Feb. 22-28. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Balbin finished seventh at the Dorado Beach Collegiate, which wrapped on Tuesday. The native of Pinehurst, North Carolina, posted rounds of 67-66-72 for a tournament score of 11-under-par 205. Balbin’s 66 in the second round is the lowest individual round of his Spartan career.
 
UNCG finished third in the 14-team, 91-golfer Dorado Beach Collegiate by turning in a 31-under-par 833 performance. The Spartans shot 273 in the first round, 283 in the second and 277 in the final round. UNCG’s third-place finish was enough to defeat second-ranked Auburn and 12th-ranked Virginia in the event, who finished sixth and fifth, respectively.
 
The Spartans will be back in action on March 6-7 in the Wake Forest Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
