ETSU's Ege, Kleen named to 2023-24 Final Fall Haskins Award Watch List

Pair helped guide the Bucs into the top 10 of the national rankings

COLUMBUS, Ga. – With the fall season coming to an end, the Haskins Award announced its 2023-24 Final Fall Watch List on Thursday, and ETSU’s Mats Ege and Algot Kleen were named to the prestigious list.

The Buccaneer duo are coming off an impressive fall campaign where they helped guide ETSU to crack the top-10 in the national rankings.

Ege finished the fall with an impressive feat as he tallied 15 straight sub-par rounds en route to generating a scoring average of 67.53. The Buccaneer leader finished in the top-six in all five of his tournaments, including a win at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and a runner-up showing at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate. During his run to the crown at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Ege set a school, course and personal record with a 10-under-par 62 in round one. Over the 15 rounds played, Ege combined to shoot a blistering 55-under this fall, while he wrapped up the season being named Southern Conference Golfer of the Month for October.

Kleen was equally as dominant as he shot below par in 12 of his 15 rounds played – generating a scoring average 68.93. The junior from Sweden, who registered three top-10 finishes in the fall, won the demanding Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate back on Oct. 15. Kleen fired an 11-under-par 205 at the Golf Club of Georgia. He also posted an 11-under-par 205 to finish runner-up at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

ETSU, Vanderbilt and North Carolina were the only schools to have multiple players named to the list. Overall, 20 golfers made the watch list.
