SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Symon Balbin has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 25-31. The selection is made by the league office.
Balbin won the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, North Carolina, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The senior posted rounds of 67-69-65 for a tournament score of 201 (-15). The native of Pinehurst, North Carolina, led the field in par-4 scoring (3.60) and birdies (19). Balbin’s round three performance was the career-best score for any round of his Spartan career.
UNCG won the Bryan National Collegiate in a field of 13 teams and 86 golfers, shooting a 37-under-par 827 for the tournament, winning by 33 strokes. The Spartans shot 279 in the first round, 281 in the second round and 267 in the final round.
The Spartans completed their fall season at the Bryan National Collegiate. UNCG will begin its spring season on Feb. 11-13 at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
