ETSU’s Ege named SoCon men’s golfer of the week

Shot 16-under 200 to set multiple records

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Mats Ege has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 4-10. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Ege won the 25th and final Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tennessee, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The native of Kristiansand, Norway, posted rounds of 62-70-68 for a tournament score of 200 (-16), establishing a new 54-hole career best for the graduate student. Ege’s performance set a course and tournament record and his 62 in the first round marked a new school record for one round. The graduate student led the field in scoring on par-4 and par-5 holes, averaging 3.80 and 4.08, respectively, on those holes. Ege also shared the tournament lead in birdies with 18.
 
ETSU, the 11th-ranked team in the country, won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in a field of 15 teams and 90 golfers, shooting 14-under-par 837 for the tournament, winning by 12 strokes. The Buccaneers shot 283 in the first round, 280 in the second round and 274 in the final round.
 
The Bucs play their next tournament in Alpharetta, Georgia, in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Oct. 13-15.
