SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Will Morlan has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Sept. 21-27. The selection is made by the league office.
Morlan finished tied for first at the Old Town Collegiate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which wrapped play Tuesday. The sophomore from Alpharetta, Georgia, posted rounds of 68-63-69 for a tournament score of 10-under-par 200. The 63 that Morlan shot in round two is tied for the second-lowest individual round in Furman history. Morlan has scored under par in all six rounds played this season, including five rounds in the 60s to hold a 67.5 scoring average.
Furman finished the Old Town Collegiate third in the 12-team, 63-golfer field, with a 2-under-par 831 performance. The Paladins shot 279 in the first round, 274 in the second and 278 in the final round.
The Paladins will play their next tournament in Dallas, Texas, as they will participate in SMU’s Trinity Forest Invitational on Oct. 2-4. Furman is the only SoCon squad that will be action this upcoming week.
