UNCG's Lyerly Named Golfweek All-American

Lyerly collects first All-America honor in his career

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf graduate student Nick Lyerly received an Honorable Mention All-America nod, as announced by Golfweek on Monday.

This is Lyerly’s first All-America honor in his career. Lyerly is one of 10 names from a mid-major on the list of 50 spread among four teams. He is the only one from the Southern Conference (SoCon) on the list.

Lyerly most recently was named to the Division I PING All-East Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). This was his second All-Region accolade, earning his first in 2019.

Lyerly was one of four SoCon men’s golfers to make an All-Region team this year. Joining him was Remi Chartier and Archie Davies from ETSU and Tobias Jonsson from Mercer.

The 2022 SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Year, the first UNCG men’s golfer to earn the distinction, concluded the season with his third NCAA Regional appearance in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He tied for 15th overall and was leading the regional after the first round by one stroke.

He finished second at the SoCon Championships after finishing the three-day event 10-under par, with a final round of seven-under 65. He made eight birdies in the final round alone.

The Salisbury, N.C. native was named SoCon Golfer of the Week four times and SoCon Golfer of the Month three times. He was named a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award.

He won three tournaments this year, including the Wolfpack Collegiate with a 10-under effort on Oct. 17, the Grandover Invitational with an astonishing 14-under par performance on Oct. 24, and following that up with the Dorado Beach tournament with another 14-under par showing on March 1.

He had six top-five finishes this season and he had an average of 69.63 to lead the SoCon. Of his 33 rounds this season, 23 were under par with 14 rounds in the 60s.
