GREENSBORO, Ga. – ETSU clinched the 2022 Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday at Reynolds Lake Oconee’s par-72, 7,393-yard The Oconee Course, finishing 19 shots clear of UNCG for its 22nd SoCon title and second straight. Redshirt sophomore Remi Chartier shot a 5-under-par 67 in the third round, following his career-low and tournament low-score of 63 in the second, to claim medalist honors for the Bucs, nabbing his first collegiate win.

th in the latest Golfstat rankings, held an eight-stroke lead over UNCG entering the final round after shooting a collective 22-under-par 279 in the second to complement their first-round 275 for a total of 554, and built enough of a cushion in Sunday’s final round to still comfortably win the team title. ETSU is one of four teams to finish under par, concluding the tournament at 39-under-par 825.
UNCG finished second, carding a 20-under 844 for its best finish since its title win in 2019. The Spartans shot 280 in the first round, 285 in the second and 279 in the final, finishing 13 strokes ahead of third-place Furman. This is the sixth time in program history that the Spartans have placed second overall and is the ninth time finishing among the top two teams.
The Paladins concluded the tournament in third place at 857, followed by Western Carolina (861), Chattanooga (869), Wofford (873), Mercer (887) and Samford (894).
Chartier became ETSU’s 17
th SoCon medalist and third in the last three tournaments with an 18-under 198 for the three-day tournament. The Montreal, Canada, native followed his tournament and career low-score of 63 in the second round with a 5-under 67 in the third to become the third straight Buccaneer to win the title since Shiso Go won in a sudden-death playoff in 2019 and redshirt sophomore Archie Davies clinched the title in 2021. Chartier led the field in total birdies with 20, while pacing the field in par-4 scoring (-8) and finishing second in par-5 scoring (-8).
Chartier paced five Bucs in the top 10, as Mats Ege finished at 5-under 216 to place sixth and Archie Davies, Algot Kleen and round-one leader Ben Carberry finished four strokes back at 4-under 212 to tie for seventh.
The Spartans had two finish in the top 10, with graduate student Nick Lyerly finishing second at 10-under 206 after his final round score of 7-under 65 and junior Noah Connor concluding the tournament with a 2-under 70 to finish with ETSU’s Davies, Kleen and Carberry in a tie for seventh. Lyerly’s tournament total of 15 birdies was third overall, while his final-round 65 was a season-best and one shy of his career collegiate low round.
Wofford’s Matthew Larkin finished third at 7-under 207, turning in a 7-under 71 in Sunday’s final round to jump six spots. He closed the tournament second amongst the 40-player field in birdies (18), in addition to finishing third amongst the field in par-4 scoring (-3).
Chattanooga’s Paul Conroy shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish two strokes behind Larkin at 7-under 209, while Furman’s Sam Lape carded a 2-under 210 in the tournament’s final round to place fifth.
ETSU’s Davies earned the Pinnacle Award as the student-athlete on the championship-winning team with the highest cumulative GPA.
The Bucs will learn its postseason destination when the NCAA selection show airs May 4 on the Golf Channel.
