Wofford's Otten named Men's Golfer of the Week

Shot a 10-under 206 to claim individual title at Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Cedric Otten has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 6-12. The selection, Otten’s first of the season and the final one of the 2021-22 campaign, is made by the league office.

Otten posted his first career tournament win at the Wofford Intercollegiate on Tuesday, April 12, shooting a 10-under-par 206 over the course of the two-day tournament to claim the title and become the second Terrier in program history to win low medalist honors at the event. The sophomore posted 15 birdies over the tournament's span, using five in Monday's first round to open with a 4-under-par 68 before finishing even in the second to sit tied for fourth after 36 holes. In the tournament’s final round on Tuesday, Otten blazed five birdies to finish the front nine 5-under, and reclaim first individually, en route to adding a birdie on No. 15 and securing co-champion status with a birdie on No. 18 – matching his previous 18-hole low of 66 for his milestone score of 206. The Dusseldorf, Germany, native is the second consecutive Terrier to win low medalist at Wofford's home tournament (Ryan Marter, 2021), with his 54-hole low score of 206 tying with former Wofford player and PGA Tour member Andrew Novak for the third-best tournament score in relation to par in event history and program history. Otten collected wins over four top-80 ranked individuals amongst the 96-player field and concluded the tournament tied for second amongst the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and par-4 scoring (-1), while also recording two eagles.

Wofford finished tied for first in the 18-team field, completing the tournament with a 15-under 849 performance to tie with UNCW. Wofford shot 282 in the first round, 289 in the second and 278 in the final round, securing wins over App State (-11), Radford (E) South Carolina - Aiken (+2) and Jacksonville (+3). The Terriers' 15-under performance marked the program's sixth-best tournament score in relation to par since finishing 12-under at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational in 2016, while the tournament victory marks the first since Wofford won the Legacy Intercollegiate on March 1, 2016. Wofford also led the field in birdies with 70.

The Terriers’ regular season is complete. Wofford returns to action alongside the seven other league programs at the
Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship at The Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia, on April 22-24.

Also nominated: Archie Davies (ETSU), Tobias Jonsson (Mercer), Paul Conroy (Chattanooga) and Jake Peacock (Western Carolina).
