STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomores Cedric Otten (-3) and Harry Jones (-1) paced the Wofford men’s golf team as the lone two Terriers to finish under par at the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course, helping Wofford jump a spot to finish the 2022 Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, in 22nd out of 28 teams on Saturday afternoon.
Otten notched a 54-hole career low with his performance, marking the first Terrier to card a 207 since Andrew Novak at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on April 12, 2016.
The Dusseldorf, Germany, native also led the Terriers with a team-high 13 birdies for the tournament.
Otten opened the Thursday’s first round within the top 20 after blazing a 3-under-par 67 – just one stroke shy of his low 18 - prior to finishing solid at 1-under on the back nine in the second round for a 71 after the opening 36 holes. The sophomore then finished 2-under on Saturday’s back-nine of the final 18, carding a 1-under 69 to finish tied for 25th with a score of 207.
Similarly, to Otten, Harry Jones was solid over the opening 36 holes, carding back-to-back 69s to head in Saturday’s final round within the field’s top 30 at 2-under overall. The sophomore then recorded a 71 in the final round to finish tied for 35th with a score of 209 to round out Wofford’s top finishers.
Jones led the Terriers in pars, parring 39 of the tournament’s 54 holes.
Wofford (+18) scored wins over six teams in San Jose State (+20), Cap Poly (+26), Drexel (+35), Miami University of Ohio (+44), Hawaii – Hilo (+52) and Howard (+75) amongst a heavily competitive field that featured seven top-50 ranked schools – including No. 9 Washington, No. 14 Stanford, No. 11 Georgia Tech, No. 36 Oregon, No. 42 Northwestern, No. 47 Nevada and No. 50 Little Rock.
Senior Walker Jones (+10) followed with a score of 220, while Jackson Hill (+14) recorded a score of 224. Junior Matthew Larkin (+18) rounds out Wofford’s lineup with a score of 228 for the tournament.
Wofford returns to the course next when it hosts the annual Wofford Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Spartanburg on Monday, April 11-12.
