SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Nick Lyerly has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Feb. 23 to March 1. The selection, Lyerly’s third of the season, is made by the league office.
 
Lyerly led the Spartans at their own Dorado Beach Collegiate tournament on Feb. 27 to March 1, posting a 14-under-par 202 performance to capture the tournament title. The graduate shot under 70 in all three rounds, earning a first-round score of 6-under 66 before posting back-to-back scores of 4-under 68 in the second and third rounds.
 
Lyerly’s win marked the third individual tournament championship he has won during the 2021-22 campaign for the Spartans, with his previous triumphs taking place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate (Oct. 17) and Grandover Collegiate (Oct. 24). The Salisbury, North Carolina, native collected his seventh career tournament title.
 
UNCG finished first in the 13-team, 81-golfer field, completing the tournament with a 11-over 835 performance. The Spartans shot 275 in the first round, 283 in the second, and 277 in the final round, clinching wins over Drexel (-25), Ball State (-22), Wofford (-19) and James Madison (-16).
 
The Spartans return to the course on March 13-14, competing in Coastal Carolina’s General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
