SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Algot Kleen has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 9-15. The selection, Kleen’s first of the season, is made by the league office.
 
Kleen posted his best collegiate finish at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Monday, March 14, shooting an 11-under-par 205 over the course of the two-day event to finish tied for second with Auburn’s Evan Vo. The freshman opened the tournament Sunday with a 4-under 68 with five birdies and one eagle before posting another sub-70 round in the second with a 3-under 69 to sit in solo second at 7-under-par entering the final round. With five holes remaining in the final round, Kleen sat atop the leaderboard, but following Oklahoma State’s Neergaard-Petersen’s par on the  final hole, he finished runner-up ahead of Auburn’s J.M. Butler and South Carolina’s Jack Wall in a loaded field that featured eight of the top 50 golfers in the country. Kleen finished with a 4-under 68 in Monday’s final round, adding another eagle and three birdies to his credit. The Fiskebackskil, Sweden, native led the field in eagles with two and posted the second-best score in par-4 scoring, playing the holes at 5-under-par for the tournament.
 
ETSU finished third in the 15-team, 87-golfer field, completing the tournament with an 18-under 846 performance. The Bucs shot 284 in the first round, 279 in the second, and 283 in the final round, earning wins over No. 2 Oklahoma State (-15), Virginia (-4), No. 34 NC State (-2) and North Florida (-2).
 
The Buccaneers return to action on March 27-29, competing in College of Charleston’s Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the Bulls Bay Golf Course in Awendaw, South Carolina.
