SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Tobias Jonsson has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 5-11. The selection is made by the league office.
Jonsson was the medalist at the Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which wrapped play Tuesday. The junior from Huddinge, Sweden, posted rounds of 70-67-67 for a tournament score of 12-under-par 204. Jonsson’s performance was an individual record at the Carolina Cup. Jonsson finished the event with 15 birdies, which was the third-best total for any player in the tournament.
Mercer finished the Carolina Cup fourth in the 14-team, 90-golfer field, with a 4-over-par 868 performance. The Bears shot 282 in the first round, 298 in the second and 288 in the final round.
Mercer will play its next tournament in Kennesaw, Georgia, as the Bears participate in Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Intercollegiate on Oct. 17-18. UNCG and Chattanooga will be the other SoCon teams in action this week as each squad will compete in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, North Carolina.
