Three Paladins Among Top 10 at Battle at Briar's Creek

Furman tees off in opening round of Battle of Briar's Creek

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. -- Three Paladin men’s golfers were among the top 10 Monday when play was suspended due to inclement weather at the Battle at Briar’s Creek at the par 72, 7,175 yard The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, S.C.  

Play will resume Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. with teams concluding round one then moving immediately into round two.  

Senior Jack Crosby (-1) is tied for second at 1-under to lead the Paladins after posting three birdies in his first 12 holes of play, just one stroke back of leader Stephen Carroll (-2) of East Carolina, who is 2-under through 15.

Junior Walker Crosby (E) is even and tied for fifth with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 12 and No. 13, through 15 holes.  Freshman Trey Diehl, (+1) who is playing as an individual, is one over and tied for 10th through 16 holes. 

Junior Ross Funderburke (+5) is tied for 41st after posting a birdie on No. 13, while sophomore Mac Scott (+6) is tied for 51st and recorded a birdie on No. 7.  Sophomore David Dickey (+13) is in 74th place. 

Jacksonville (+1) leads East Carolina (+8) by seven strokes in the team competition, while Francis Marion (+9) is in third.  The Paladins (+10) are tied for fourth place with Winthrop (+10) and Memphis (+10).
