SAITAMA, Japan – The Olympic debut has concluded for former ETSU men’s golfer Adrian Meronk. For the second consecutive round, Meronk went below par at Kasumigaseki East Course in Saitama, Japan, finishing with a score of 70 (-1) to conclude his Olympic debut tied for 51st finish at 2-under-par for the event.
 
Meronk struggled early in the round, posting two bogeys in his first five holes. However, Meronk responded with a pair of birdies on holes No. 7 and 8 to crawl back to even par. Meronk turned to the back nine with a score of even-par through the first nine holes. The Poland product played the front nine at 3-under-par for the week, successfully making the turn each round at even-par or better.
 
Meronk carried his consecutive-birdie momentum into hole No. 10 with a birdie on the par-3 to move to 1-under-par for his round. He was not done there, picking up a fourth birdie in five holes with a birdie on the par-4 11th hole to move to 2-under-par through 11 holes.
 
Unfortunately for Meronk, he dropped back to even-par after the 12th hole with a double bogey on the par-4. The Poland native played the next four holes at even-par before posting his final birdie of his Olympic debut with a 3 on the par-4 17th hole.
 
Meronk tapped in for par on the 18th green, concluding his Olympic competition with a 1-under-par (70) final round and 2-under-par (282) event score.
 
The United States’ Xander Schauffele claimed the gold medal with a tournament score of 18-under-par (266). Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini surged into the silver medal stand with a 10-under-par (61) final round to shoot 17-under-par (267) for the event. There was a seven-way tie for bronze at 15-under-par (269) with C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei claiming the medal after the fourth playoff hole, edging Collin Morikawa (United States) with a par on the 18th green.
