NEWPORT, Wales – ETSU’s Archie Davies has made the cut in his European Tour debut at the 2021 Cazoo Open in Newport, Wales.
Davies used his first-round score of 2-under-par (69) to provide himself with some cushion heading into the second round. The Carlisle, England, native began the day sitting in a tie for 24th with 18 holes to determine if he would be playing during the weekend.
Davies began the day on a stronger note with a trio of pars before recording a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole to move to 3-under-par for the event. However, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year dropped two shots two holes later with a double bogey on the par-4 sixth hole.
Davies made the turn at 1-over-par (37), similar to his front-nine performance in round one. He was unable to repeat his string of back-nine birdies from the opening round, settling for a 3-over-par final nine to conclude the second round with a 4-over-par (75).
With his two rounds in the books, Davies was sitting at 2-over-par for the event and would have to wait for the remaining field to conclude play to determine the outcome. The SoCon Freshman of the Year was on the edge of the cutline throughout the entirety of the day, but never fell below the line, securing his spot into the weekend.
Davies will tee off in the third round at 6:38 a.m. (ET) alongside David Dixon and Alexander Levy. Davies is one of two amateurs to make the cut as Alex Fitzpatrick joins him at 2-over-par.
