SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Elisabeth Ralph and Furman’s Regan Lingo have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from March 30 through April 5.
Ralph earned her second straight offensive player of the week honor after a record-setting game against Presbyterian on Wednesday. The junior from Hillsdale, New Jersey, set a conference and program record with nine goals to lead Wofford to its first win of the season against the Blue Hose. She scored three free-position goals, which matches the Terriers’ single-game program record, and won three draws in the 17-13 victory. Ralph’s performance paced her to becoming Wofford’s all-time goals (60) and points leader (70). Ralph is ranked second in the SoCon with 3.14 goals per game and fourth with 3.43 points per game.
Wofford (1-6, 0-2 SoCon) will travel to Dover, Delaware, on April 12 to compete against conference foe Delaware State (1-7, 0-1). The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
Lingo, the defensive player of the week, set a new career high with eight ground balls in Furman’s 13-10 win over Coastal Carolina, which is its first in program history, to open conference play. The senior from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, tied the program’s single-game record for ground balls that was previously set by Courtney Baker on March 29, 2019, at Stetson. Lingo caused two turnovers in the contest and was a part of the defense that forced Coastal Carolina into 20 turnovers, including 12 in the first half. She scooped up four ground balls in the first half as the Paladins built a 7-4 halftime lead and added four more in the second half. Her last ground ball came with three seconds left in the game to secure the three-goal victory. Lingo ranks second in the conference with 2.11 ground balls per game and fourth with 1.22 caused turnovers per game.
Furman has earned five straight defensive player of the week honors and six of eight this season for a total of 10, marking the most defensive honors a school has received in SoCon women’s lacrosse history.
Furman (6-3, 1-0) will hit the road on Friday, April 9, to compete against Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. The Owls hold a 2-1 record against SoCon teams this season with their only loss to Coastal Carolina, as the Paladins seek out a road win.
Other offensive nominees: Meagan Beal (Furman) and Hailey Rhatigan (Mercer).
Other defensive nominees: Ainsley Malamala (Mercer) and Kelsey Thompson (Wofford).
