SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Ally Furnari and Kelsey Thompson have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from April 6-12.
Furnari earned offensive player of the week honors after matching a program-best nine points on eight goals and an assist on Monday against Delaware State. She shot .800 with all 10 shots on-goal, while her eight goals are tied for the second-most scored in a single game for Wofford. The junior from Lutherville, Maryland, scored three free-position goals, which matches her career high and the Terriers’ single-game program record, and scooped up four ground balls in the 20-7 win. She also won a draw control and caused one turnover. Furnari and Elisabeth Ralph, last week’s offensive player of the week, combined for 14 goals in the win, marking the most between two Wofford women’s lacrosse players with at least three goals apiece in a contest.
Thompson, the defensive player of the week, tallied eight saves on 19 shots faced and a .533 save percentage in the Terriers’ 20-7 win. The goalie from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, played in all 60 minutes and limited the Hornets to only seven goals to earn her second win of the season. Thompson ranks second in the SoCon with nine saves per game.
The Terriers picked up their third all-time SoCon victory against the Hornets, scoring 20 goals for only the second time in program history to set a program record for most goals in a conference match.
Wofford (2-6, 1-2 SoCon) will host Stetson (0-4, 0-2 ASUN) on Friday, April 16, at 12 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Other offensive nominees: Kayla Downey (Coastal Carolina), Sydney McClure (Furman) and Lily Morin (Mercer).
Other defensive nominees: Meghan Deehan (Furman).
