SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina sophomore Magnus Pedersen has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition March 10-16. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Pedersen shot 2-under-par 214 to tie for eighth at the Seahawk Intercollegiate at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, North Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday. The Moss, Norway, native opened the tournament with a 2-over 74 before turning a 1-under 71 in Monday’s second round to sit in a tie for 27^th after day one. Pedersen then jumped 19 spots over his final 18 holes, firing a 3-under 69 in Tuesday’s final round for his best career finish. Pedersen tallied 12 birdies at the tournament, including six in his final round.
 
The Catamounts finished seventh in the 10-team, 66-man field. Tournament host UNCW, which is ranked No. 48 nationally and boasts two top-25 individuals, won the event.
 
Western Carolina returns to action March 26-28 at the Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina. Joining the Catamounts in the field will be SoCon foes Furman, Samford, Chattanooga and Wofford.
 
Also nominated: Connor Nolan (Chattanooga) and Matthew Copeland (Wofford).
