SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Keller Harper has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition March 3-9. The selection is made by the league office.
Harper finished second at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday. The senior from Atlanta, Georgia, turned in a career-low 9-under-par 201 to claim runner-up honors in the 75-man field, which included six ranked Division I opponents. Harper, who sandwiched two rounds of 2-under 68 around a season-best 5-under 65, recorded his 11th career top-five performance and second top-two finish this season. Harper trailed only second-ranked Jacob Bridgeman Clemson in the individual standings.
Harper helped the Paladins to a fourth-place finish in the 15-team tournament, which was won by No. 7 Clemson and included SoCon foes Samford and Wofford. USC Aiken, the fourth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, hosted the event.
The weekly honor is the fifth of Harper’s career, tying him for the SoCon record with four others.
Furman returns to action March 19-21 at the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
Also nominated: Tommy Lamb (UNC Greensboro), A.J. Lintunen (Chattanooga), Tumi Kúld (Western Carolina) and Walker Jones (Wofford).
