SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following his second straight tournament win, UNCG senior Nick Lyerly has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 20-26. The selection is made by the league office.
Lyerly followed up last week’s win at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate with individual medalist honors at the Spartans’ own Grandover Collegiate over the weekend. The senior from Salisbury, North Carolina, shot a 14-under-par 202 for the tournament, opening with consecutive rounds of 6-under 66 before closing out his two-stroke win with a 2-under 70 on Sunday. The 45
th-ranked Lyerly bogeyed just two of his 54 holes, which came on consecutive holes in the final round after opening the tournament with 49 consecutive holes of par or better. The tournament win was the sixth of his career.
Lyerly’s efforts helped the Spartans to a third-place finish in their fall finale. The field included 15 teams and 101 student-athletes.
UNCG is idle until hosting the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate at Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City, Florida, on Feb. 13-15.
Also nominated: Archie Davies (ETSU), Tobias Jonsson (Mercer), Paul Conroy (Chattanooga) and Jake Peacock (Western Carolina).
