SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Remi Chartier has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 6-12. The selection is made by the league office and is the third one of the season.
Chartier earned his top collegiate finish and top 54-hole score at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tennessee, posting three straight rounds below par to finish tied for third at 11-under-par 205. He fired a collegiate-best 6-under 66 in Monday’s second round to take a two-shot lead at 10-under-par before shooting a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to tie with Charlotte’s Matt Sharpstene for third. The redshirt sophomore led the field in par-4 scoring at 10-under, while totaling 14 birdies and 37 pars over the 54 holes. The Montreal, Canada, native helped guide the 19
th-ranked Buccaneers to the team victory, which marks the second time that ETSU has won the title in its 23-year history of the tournament.
The Buccaneers clinched the victory in the 15-team, 93-golfer field, tying the tournament record with a 35-under 829 performance. ETSU shot 277 in the first round, 275 in the second, and 277 in the final round, scoring wins over Charlotte (-29), Louisville (-29), and Georgia Southern (-24). With the win, the Buccaneers have now recorded three victories in their last five tournaments played, which also includes the 2021 SoCon Championship and NCAA Regional.
Three of the 10 SoCon men’s golf teams are back in action on Oct. 16-17, with Furman, UNCG, and Wofford competing at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate hosted by NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina. Samford returns to play on Oct. 18-19, as the Bulldogs compete at the Pine Tree Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Georgia. ETSU is back in action at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia, from Oct. 22-24.
