Central Michigan's Jessica Schuchardt and Hope Murray swept the weekly awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Central Michigan’s Jessica Schuchardt and Hope Murray have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 18-24. The awards are selected by the league office.

Central Michigan took a decisive 14-2 win over Butler last Sunday in its home opener to give the Chippewas their first win of the season.

Schuchardt led the attack for Central Michigan with one goal and five assists for six points. The senior from Westminster, Maryland, set up goals for four different Chippewas in the win and added a goal of her own late in the first half. Schuchardt, already Central Michigan’s career assists leader, now has 83 in her career.

The weekly award is the first of Schuchardt’s career.

Murray was a rock between the pipes for the Chippewas, allowing just one goal in just over 52 minutes in goal. The senior from West Linn, Oregon, managed six saves while facing a total of 10 shots in the contest. Murray also chipped in with a caused turnover early in the game when she came off her line to intercept a Bulldog pass and spring an attack going the other way.

The weekly award is the second of Murray’s career.

Central Michigan (1-1) will have an extended break before its next match on March 12 at Cincinnati (0-3), with opening draw set for noon.

Other offensive nominees: Grace Pollak (Furman) and Cailey Thornburg (Mercer).

Other defensive nominees: Morgan Franklin (Furman) and Kathryn Vanderlinde (Mercer).
