FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Mercer men's golf team closed out its first competition with a convincing 6-0 shutout victory over host George Washington in the consolation championship match at the President's Day Match Play at Weston Hills Country Club on Tuesday morning.
 
The Bears finished the week at 2-1 after winning their final two matches by a combined score of 11-1. Sophomore Martin Plukka continued his strong start to the spring with his third victory of the week, against Cliff Thompson, 1-and-1. Junior Tyler Copp also concluded the event without a loss as he defeated Luis Preciado, 1Up, to move to 2-0 for the tournament.
 
The Bears return to the links on March 2-3 when they return to the Sunshine State for the Fort Lauderdale Collegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.), at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
