SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Hailey Rhatigan and Iseabal Cryne have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, after leading the Bears to wins over Gardner-Webb and Campbell last week. The awards are selected by the league office.
Rhatigan was an offensive force for Mercer, leading the Bears with nine goals and three assists for 12 points during the week. The sophomore from Holbrook, New York, opened the week with five goals and two assists in the 20-6 win over Gardner-Webb on Friday and followed with four more goals and an assist in the 14-9 win at Campbell on Sunday. Rhatigan fired a total of 20 shots over both games with 14 being on goal, while also recording five ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw control. The midfielder now has 76 goals for her career, the sixth-most in Mercer history.
The weekly award is the second of Rhatigan’s career.
Cryne added a pair of wins to her record as she was strong between the pipes in both games. The junior from Milton, Delaware, made 19 total saves over two games, beginning the week with five saves and just four goals allowed in the win over Gardner-Webb. Cryne dazzled once again in goal against Campbell, with the Mercer goalkeeper tying her career high of 14 saves against the Camels.
The weekly award is the second of Cryne’s career.
Mercer (2-1) will host California (0-2) in its next contest on Friday, Feb. 21, starting at 5 p.m.
